The Hannah Montana series premiered on March 26, 2006, to the largest audience ever for a Disney channel show and quickly propelled Miley to the “teen idol” status. It soon became one of the highest-rated series on basic cable. Time magazine reported that Miley’s “phenomenal” success was due to both her talent and Disney’s ability to market Miley and Hannah Montana appropriately. Miley became the first artist to have four deals within the Walt Disney Company, having secured them in television, film, consumer products and music.
Miley’s first single, “The Best of Both Worlds”, which is also the theme song for the Hannah Montana show, was released on March 28, 2006. Many of Miley’s songs were sung by Miley under the guise of the character that she played, Hannah Montana. As Hannah, Miley opened for the Cheetah Girls on twenty dates for their The Party’s Just Begun Tour that began on September 15, 2006. Walt Disney Records released the first Hannah Montana soundtrack on October 24th of that year and although eight of the tracks were credited to to Hannah Montana, it also contained a duet with her father titled “I Learned from You”, which was credited to Miley herself. The album was a complete success and went on to peak at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.
On April 23, 2007, the second season of Hannah Montana premiered. On June 26th of that year, Miley released a double-disc album. The soundtrack to the second season of the Hannah Montana show was on the first disc and the second disc titled,” Meet Miley Cyrus”, became Miley’s debut album and was credited to her own name. This album also peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was later certified three times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Miley’s single , “See You Again”, from the “Meet Miley Cyrus” album became a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 at that same time.
Miley launched her first tour, “The Best of Both Worlds”, in the fall of 2007, to promote her albums. Everlife,The Jonas Brothers and Aly & AJ were the opening acts from October 17, 2007 to January 31, 2008, as they toured both |
