Billy Ray and Miley in Better Days |
Billy Ray Cyrus, in and interview with GQ magazine spoke out about his daughter's, Miley Cyrus's recent controversies surrounding her. The most startling revelation was that he blamed the "Hannah Montana" character that she portrayed as "destroying" his family. He continued on to say that he was afraid that his 18 year old daughter would meet the same tragic fate that overcame other controversial stars such as Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith and Kurt Cobain. Billy Ray said that "Every time the train went off the track, if you will - Vanity Fair, pole-dancing, whatever scandal it was - her people, or as they say in today's news, her handlers, every time they'd put me..'Somebody's shooting at Miley! Put the old man up there!"' Explaining why he used to have such a strong prescence in Miley's life, Billy Ray said, "Well, I took it because I'm her daddy, and that's what daddies do," adding, '"Okay, nail me to the cross, I'll take it....'" He went on to say that he felt that they used him and that was the main reason that he chose not to attend his daughter's 18th birthday party last year. It was held in a bar that was for people 21 years old and up and he wasn't about to give them another reason to point the finger at him and say that he endorsed this kind of behavior. He's decided to stay out of all of this and admitted that the whole thing was falling apart up there.
